چکیده

Background Numerous studies have identified an increased risk for Alzheimer’s dementia (AD) in Type II Diabetes (T2D). However, the T2D biological characteristics contributing to this are still unknown. Adiposity assessed by body mass index (BMI) is one of main causes and has been consistently linked higher risk, faster cognitive decline, related neural injury. contribution fat specifically cannot be derived from BMI, which encompasses different adipose tissues, bone, muscle mass. In study we examined whether regional abdominal adiposity contributes AD-related brain volume mechanism underlying it, older adults with participating Israel Cognitive Decline (IDCD) study. Method Regional was measured so far 60 participants, including hepatic pancreatic tissue (AAT), composed subcutaneous visceral tissues (SAT VAT). Brain volumes were regions associated decline (hippocampus, cingulate gyrus, amygdala, ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC)). Linear regressions associations adjusting sociodemographics, BMI intracranial volume. We also tested if triglycerides, components mediated these associations. Result Greater VAT:AAT ratio smaller vmPFC (r = -0.38; p 0.026) hippocampal -0.44; 0.005) but not amygdala gyrus volumes. The SAT:AAT greater 0.40; hippocampus 0.48; 0.004) cingulate. No found between Higher triglyceride levels 0.38; 0.036) turn lower -0.45, 0.05). Triglycerides partially association -0.36; 0.03). did mediate any other Conclusion T2D, a proportion may detrimental impact on relevant functioning. proportions protective role. Triglycerides, implicated insulin resistance chronic systemic inflammation VAT-hippocampus link.

Vitamin D Deficiency is Associated with the Metabolic Syndrome in Subjects with Type 2 Diabetes

Background and Objectives: There is convincing evidence that subjects concomitantly affected by type 2 diabetes (T2D) and metabolic syndrome (MeS) are at greater risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Many metabolic derangements in T2D might be attributed to poor vitamin D status. The purpose of this study was to investigate the associations among vitamin D status, MeS and glycemic status in su...

Resveratrol attenuates visfatin and vaspin genes expression in adipose tissue of rats with type 2 diabetes

Objective(s): Visfatin and vaspin are secreted by adipose tissue and play key roles in glucose homeostasis and subsequently are potential targets for diabetes treatment. Resveratrol (RVS) corrects insulin secretion and improves insulin sensitivity. We investigated the RVS effects on serum antioxidants, insulin and glucose levels, also visfatin and vaspin genes expression in adipose tissue of st...

Factors associated with the functional independence level in older adults

Introduction: Functional independence in old age refers to active presence in daily life. One of the best ways to evaluate the functional independence of elderly is assessing the level of activities. This study aims to determine the status of functional independence in performing instrumental and daily activities as well as its related factors. Methods: This cross-sectional study was cond...

Muscle and adipose tissue biopsy in older adults with type 2 diabetes

We describe a method for obtaining skeletal muscle and subcutaneous adipose tissue in a single percutaneous needle biopsy procedure. Biopsies were performed in a double-blind randomized, sham-exercise controlled clinical trial of power training in 103 older adults with type 2 diabetes. In total 110 biopsies (73.3%) were performed in the first 50 participants at 3 time points. Muscle samples wer...
